Get in the Cloud with a Virtual Private Server

There is a movement afoot that brings the next wave in technological advancement to every business large or small. No longer are companies going to have to figure out where to stash their own servers or how to protect the data that is on them. Instead, businesses will store all of their data using cloud hosting VPS that other companies are responsible for backing up and housing.

VPS

Virtual Private Servers (VPS) are those servers whereon companies store their data. The thing is that the servers are no longer at a physical location within the company. Instead, they are set up by another company somewhere in the cloud. It is all very technological and almost like magic, especially if you believe that any technology that is significantly advanced will appear to be magic to someone that is less advanced. (Think about taking a lighter to the Neanderthals).

The Cloud

The “private” in “private server” refers to the fact that no one else has access to the server but the company. However, that access can be made anywhere that the company personnel have access to the Internet. That is the cloud portion of the “cloud hosting.”

Benefits

Not having to store a server means that the company does not incur the hardware costs associated with having to purchase enough memory for two servers – one that is used all of the time and one that is used to back up the information. It also means that there doesn’t have to be a place to store the two servers and no associated climate control fees.

It means that the company does not have to guess about how much storage it needs. Cloud hosting VPS companies can provide the amount of storage that the company needs when it needs it. This is different than it used to be when companies would have to buy more memory and take a server offline to install it, or when they would just have to buy an entirely new server and backup. The process also offers data protection from natural disasters that may affect the company at a physical location.
